This year will be run a little differently to last year… and different to any other PG comp!

We need to strictly stick to the allocated 4 days 14-17 October. Hopefully we get some good weather.

We will plan for Four XC race tasks like last year. Around 15km long… nothing huge… hopefully we’ll get most pilots into goal! Maximum 1000 points each race scored by uploading tracks to highcloud. Start window will be tight this year so if you are more than an hour late for the start you won’t score… but you can score in other ways… stay tuned…

One task will be a spot landing comp. Max points 500. We will hold this in the morning of one of the days before XC conditions come on.

Pilots can also score by flying “COMP Open Distance” flights.. This means that the pilot starts within the allocated window, completes the course and makes goal, and then continues flying for maximum distance. This will be scored using xcontest points (minus course length) multiplied by 15.
So if you do an additional 20km flight past goal you add 300pts to your race score!).. but you MUST make goal to score in this category.
That way everyone flies together to help each other get through the course… and you can decide to land for goal beers, or continue on for the glory!… but miss out on goal beers. 🤷‍♂️

Pilots can also score by flying “FREE Open Distance” flights (one per day).. This does not include completing the xc course… so if someone prefers not to launch in the comp window and waits until later in the day, they can still score with an open distance flight. This will be scored using xcontest points multiplied by 10.
These “FREE Open Distance” flights can be in addition to you race score…. So if you don’t make goal in the race, head back to launch again and try for another flight… your race score and your follow-up flight will both score.

We think this format will mix it up a bit and be a lot of fun!
The aim is to get as many people flying together as possible and to get inexperienced pilots around a course, while still providing a challenge for the more experienced pilots… and if you’re not interested in joining the crazy race gaggle, there are still scoring options for those who prefer to do their own thing.

Please get familiar with your instruments, you will need to be able to record and upload a .igc file to highcloud and xcontest if you want to score.
This format, although fun!, will make for a lot more work for the scorer (me)… so please make it as easy as possible by ensuring that you can upload a .igc file to www.xcontest.org before the comp starts.
